Former Wisconsin Governor and Leading Caregiver Advocate Martin Schreiber Endorses Sara Rodriguez for Governor

“A proven winner we can count on to protect the progress made and move Wisconsin forward.”

Waukesha, WI —Former Wisconsin Governor Martin Schreiber has endorsed Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez for Governor as Democrats head into their convention this weekend in Madison.

“Sara Rodriguez is a proven winner.  She is a leader. She will beat Congressman Tom Tiffany and help take majorities in the Assembly and Senate,” said Schreiber.

“In 2020, Sara stepped up to run for State Assembly and won, beating a four-term Republican in Waukesha County. When Governor Evers needed a partner on the Democratic ticket in 2022, Sara stepped up again and won statewide. Together, they have fought for working families, produced a record of results, and stood strong for Wisconsin against Trump’s chaos, corruption and failure. Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez is a proven winner we can count on.  She has the passion, the determination, the ability, the energy to build on the success of Governor Evers and move Wisconsin forward.”

“I am so proud to have earned Governor Schreiber’s support. Marty has committed his life to public service in Wisconsin.  He is a leading advocate for caregivers,” said Lieutenant Governor Rodriguez. “We share a passion for public service and caring for others. As Governor, I will do what I have done working as a nurse – be there for people when it counts.”

“Health care is a deeply personal issue to families across Wisconsin as it is for me,” Schreiber said.  “As an ER nurse who has worked the night shift and as a public health leader, Sara knows the critical importance of available compassionate health care. Her experience is from the frontlines. She was a working mom who faced the daunting challenge of taking care of her father with Alzheimer’s, while raising a family. She understands. She gets it. She knows the challenges Wisconsin families face every day and has put forward solutions to make life better for Wisconsinites. I support Sara for Governor because I know Wisconsin can count on her to win and make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Schreiber became Wisconsin’s 39th governor in 1977, capping 16 years of public service, including as state senator and lieutenant governor. Schreiber’s book, My Two Elaines: Learning, Coping, and Surviving as an Alzheimer's Caregiver, details his experience caring for his late wife, Elaine, who lived with Alzheimer’s for nearly 20 years. His book has earned a distinguished place among caregiver books in the U.S., accumulating notable rankings and awards since its initial release in 2017. Since then, Schreiber has continued with his message of hope and survival for those touched by dementia through nearly 1,000 presentations nationwide.
