“Trump-Tiffany's Union delivers crushing costs for families, unaffordable health care, and a reckless approach to immigration that disregards the Constitution”

MADISON, WI—Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez, a registered nurse and Democratic candidate for governor, released the following statement ahead of President Trump’s State of the Union address tonight:

“Tonight, President Trump will give his State of the Union address while Congressman Tom Tiffany cheers him on. But Wisconsin families are living a very different reality under Trump-Tiffany’s Union. 

Under Trump-Tiffany’s Union, Wisconsinites are being squeezed from every direction. Groceries, housing, and utility bills are all more expensive. Working families, small business owners, manufacturers, and farmers are being crushed by Trump’s tariffs, which Tom Tiffany called “a good thing.” Small businesses have seen costs triple, and workers are being laid off across Wisconsin.

Trump-Tiffany’s Union is raising the cost of healthcare and putting quality, affordable health insurance farther out reach. Tom Tiffany voted for Trump’s trillion-dollar cut to Medicaid and voted against extending the tax credits that helped Wisconsinites afford coverage. And while people are rationing medicine and skipping checkups, Tom Tiffany has no plan to lower health care costs. I do.

And Trump-Tiffany's Union has made our broken immigration system worse by embracing an excessive, militarized approach that resulted in the deaths of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota and widespread community fear. Tom Tiffany said he would welcome the same warrantless, masked raids here, prioritizing political loyalty to Donald Trump over the clear message from Wisconsinites that we don't want federal agents roaming our streets conducting mass deportation raids in our communities. 

This is what Trump-Tiffany's Union delivers: crushing costs for families, unaffordable health care, and a reckless approach to immigration that disregards the Constitution, undermines our democracy, and puts our neighbors at risk. Not on my watch.

Tonight Donald Trump and Tom Tiffany will celebrate themselves. But Wisconsin families know the truth: Trump-Tiffany’s Union is failing us. We deserve better, and as governor, I’ll deliver it – and I’ll always put Wisconsin first.”
