Build a Justice System That Actually Works

As governor, Sara Rodriguez will reform our criminal justice system so it keeps communities safe, treats people fairly, and gives people a second chance.

Wisconsin's criminal justice system is in need of real reform. We lock up more Black men per capita than almost any other state in the country. We send people to prison for low-level offenses and then make it nearly impossible for them to get jobs, housing, or a fresh start when they get out. We spend hundreds of millions of dollars warehousing people instead of investing in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. And meanwhile, violent crime goes unsolved, victims don't get justice, and communities don't feel safe.

For decades, politicians have played tough-on-crime politics while ignoring what actually works. We've built more prisons instead of addressing root causes. We've criminalized addiction instead of treating it. We've imposed mandatory minimums that tie judges' hands. And we've created a system that falls hardest on Black and brown communities while letting wealthy people buy their way out.

We can keep communities safe AND treat people fairly. We can hold people accountable for harm they've caused AND give them a path to redemption. We can invest in prevention AND ensure consequences when people commit serious crimes. These goals aren't in conflict – they're how you build a justice system that actually works. Sara Rodriguez will.
